The original author behind the Winnie-the-Pooh stories was A.A. Milne. Initially, Winnie-the-Pooh was spelt with hyphens, and the hyphens were dropped after the Walt Disney company acquired the rights to the Winnie the Pooh characters. Winnie-the-Pooh was named after his son’s stuffed teddy bear, also named Winnie. His son was named Christopher Robin Milne, the same as the character Christopher Robin in the stories. Christopher’s other stuffed toys, Tigger, Kanga, Piglet, Eeyore, also became characters in the Winnie the Pooh stories. Christopher Robin Milne’s original stuffed teddy bear is now in display in the New York Public Library.
The Hundred Acre woods mentioned in the Winnie the Pooh stories are based in Ashdown Forest in Sussex, England. All of the locations mentioned in the stories are based on real places in the forest. Every Saturday, spring and summer holidays, the Milne family would go spend time in a country home beside Ashdown Forest.
Winnie Pooh’s best friend is Tigger. Tigger is a bit of a mystery as he’s a very bouncy animal always bouncing around on his tail and he looks like a tiger. He has a fun & exuberant personality and always says that the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is that “He’s the only One!”
Eeyore is another of Winnie the Pooh’s friends. He is usually shown as a rather dark blue-greyish stuffed donkey with a long tail & a ribbon bow tie tied around his tail. Because he’s a stuffed toy full of sawdust, he’s always losing his tail so Christopher Robin has to use a drawing pin to stick his tail to his body. It doesn’t hurt him because he’s made of sawdust. Eeyore’s favorite food is thistles and he likes to help his friends out, even though he pretends not to care and says that he’s helping out only because he has nothing else better to do.
AA Milne had actually based the Winnie the Pooh character on a real bear in the London zoo. During World War 1, Canadian troops being transported to Europe stopped by a town called White River, Ontario. A soldier named Harry Colebourn bought a small female black bear cub and named her “Winnipeg” or “Winnie” after his hometown. When they stopped by London, Colebourn gave her to the London zoo as it wasn’t practical to bring the bear to the battlefield in France. Winnie the black bear became very popular in the London zoo and was Christopher Robin’s favourite animal in the zoo. AA Milne based Winnie the Pooh on this black bear in the London zoo.
However, the best way to look like Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Kanga or Piglet is to get a Eeyore Costume or Winnie the Pooh Ears or Winnie Pooh Costume or Winnie the Pooh Costumes.
